Keep CATNEY Post Office OPEN!
Posted by CVS Administrator on Tuesday 17 June 2008 - 00:03:16

Its only 12 months since the official opening of Catney Village Stores when we celebrated our super new facilities, including an ‘open all hours’ Post Office combi-counter. But by the time you read this edition of Catney News it will be public knowledge that Post Office Limited are proposing to close the Catherine de Barnes branch.

The Post Office Network Change Programme

We are part of the Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire area of this programme. On 24th June 2008 the 3 branches proposed for closure in the Solihull parliamentary constituency were named – Olton Hollow, Haslucks Green Road and Catherine de Barnes.

The nearby branches listed for Catney residents are Hampton in Arden and Elmdon Heath. Post Office Limited claims Hampton has roadside parking available outside the branch and a regular bus service! For Elmdon Heath, there is no direct bus service. Neither of them has on line Lottery and they both have a step at the entrance.
- Hampton is open only from 9.00am to 5.30pm and to 1.00pm on Saturday and Elmdon Heath also closes at 1.00pm on Wednesday.

Catney Post Office is open 7 days a week – until 9.00pm every night!

You can park on both sides of the road – and we have disabled access

We are the only Post Office for miles with on line Lottery

Local Public Consultation – 24th June to 4th August 2008

The consultation process is open to customers and other interested organisations. Views and comments are sought about access to Post Office services in the area, including the availability of public transport, alternative access to key Post Office services, local demographics (such as age, sex, disability, race, religion and ethnicity) and the impact on customers and the local economy. If they decide to close Catney Post Office it will likely close in September 2008.

If we don’t do anything Catney Post Office will close!

If we campaign strongly with the right sort of arguments there is a chance that Catney Post Office will stay open

Fighting to save our Post Office

We are inviting everyone to join us in the fight to save our Post Office. We are involving the Catney Residents Association, our local Councillors, our MP Lorely Burt, campaigner Maggie Throup and the Meriden MP Caroline Spelman – and anyone else who can help and add weight to our campaign.

There will be posters in our shop window and for customers to display in their own windows. There will be petition forms and coverage in the local press. There will be suggestions on the issues people can include in their own letters to the Government and Post Office Limited. And there will be meetings in the Church Hall.

Throughout the consultation period we will put up the best fight possible to save Catney Post Office

We hope that all members of Catney Residents Association and all our other customers will join us in this fight

Our first public meeting will be on Wednesday 9th July 2008 at 8.00pm in the Church Hall

Please come along and join the campaign to Keep CATNEY Post Office OPEN!
